The Bangabasi College was an outcome of untiring efforts of leader and reformist Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar in the year 1887. The college was established as a public institution and has been under the control of the state government authorities in West Bengal since its inception. An educationist himself, Vidyasagar laid stress on good quality education to be delivered in his college premises. Today, the Bangabasi College has carved a place for itself among the most famous colleges of West Bengal imparting studies in general courses.
