IIT or the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur is the oldest institute for technical education in independent India, formally inaugurated in the year 1951 by Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, the then Minister of Education and famous freedom fighter.

A number of research as well as technical development areas are being worked upon by the students of IIT-Kharagpur.
Ranging from “bioprocess for sandalwood somatic seeding production” to an “Infrared shaft misalignment detector”, there are a number of development projects that students have successfully completed.
Few of the research facilities offered to students of the institute include Advanced VLSI Laboratory, Analytical Food Testing Laboratory, Kalpana Chawla Space Technology Cell, and Ocean and Atmospheric Science and Technology Cell.
They also get the opportunity to be taught by the President of India who is the visiting faculty in this autonomous institute. IIT in Kharagpur has topped the ratings of the best engineering institutes in India numerous times in various surveys done every year. It also has its presence in cities of Bhubaneshwar and Kolkata.
