IRMA, Institute of Rural Management Anand

Institute of Rural Management Anand or IRMA, as is better known, was founded in 1979 by National Dairy Development Board with the support of Government of India, Government of Gujarat and Swiss Development Co-operation. IRMA was established as an autonomous institution primarily to help professionalise the management of rural organizations.

IRMA is located in Anand, a town situated between Ahmedabad and Vadorara in the western state of Gujarat, India. It is just 4 kms away from Anand Railway station and Anand Bus station. The IRMA campus is spread over 65acres of land. The students are provided with single rooms in one of the nine hostel blocs of IRMA. It also has table tennis and badminton courts and a gym in the students’ activities center. The library, computer center and the audiovisual section of IRMA are well equipped to cater to the needs of students.

Program of study at IRMA

Institute of Rural Management Anand initially offered only the post Graduate program in Rural Management. But over the years it has seen tremendous growth and at present it offers altogether four courses. They are-

  • 2 year Post-Graduate Program in Rural Management (PRM)
  • 3 to 5 days Management Development programme (MDP)
  • Fellow Program in Rural Management (FPRM)
  • Research & Consultancy

IRMA Admission

Admission to PRM at IRMA:

Students are admitted to the Post Graduate Programme (PRM) of the Rural Management on the basis of their performance in a written test followed by group discussion and interview.

Graduates (under the 10+2+3 pattern) with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/PWD) are eligible to apply to this course. However candidates who are appearing in the final year of their exam are eligible to apply to the course. IRMA also encourages sponsored candidates to take the test for admission to this management programme. The IRMA entrance test for admission to the PRM and FPRM is held generally in the month of November. The IRMA written test for admission to PRM & FPRM programme for the academic year 2008-10 will be held on November 11, 2007.

Admission to FPRM at IRMA

Students are admitted to the fellow Programme in Management at IRMA on the basis of their performance in a written test and interview & personal discussion. However as the written test is common for both the PRM and the FPRM candidates who have already done their PRM from IRMA are exempted from appearing in the entrance test. Candidates with PRM from IRMA & 2 years experience, PGDM with 55% marks & 2 year’s experience, one year programme (OYP) from IRMA with 3 years experience, PG degree with 55% marks & 2 years experience and M.Phil degree holder with at least 55% marks from a recognized university are eligible to apply to the course. The forms for the FPRM programme of IRMA can be obtained from FPRM Co-ordinator, Institute of Rural Management Anand, Anand 388 001. Those who get admitted to the fellowship programme would be entitled to receive fellowship of Rs. 10,000/- per month and a contingency grant of Rs.20, 000 per year. Generally the fellowship is made available for three years but it is extended to one more year to the deserving candidates.

The Management development programme at IRMA is designed to help organizations in the rural sector to achieve greater efficiency by training their managers. The brochure are sent to the client organizations nearly 3 months before the commencement of the progrmme.
