National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT)

The National Institute of Fashion Technology, popularly referred to as NIFT in India, is the most well recognized name among design schools in the country. NIFT was established under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Textiles of the government of India in the year 1986. But it was in the year 2006 that NIFT was given a statutory status by the Parliament of India which empowered the institute to award degrees in textile design, accessory design, fashion technology and fashion management. It was from this year that the number of applications to NIFT increased; today with the rise in the demand for professional studies in fashion, resident and international students opt for degree, certificate and diploma courses in National Institute of Fashion Technology.

Admission Procedure / Eligibility Criteria
  • An applicant at NIFT should have completed the 10+2 level of examination successfully from a school recognized by the central board or the state board of secondary education.
  • If one has passed the general certificate education (GCE) examination that would be an added advantage.
  • An international candidate should have completed studies from a public school, college or university that is recognized by Association of Indian Universities.
  • For courses in fashion technology, a diploma certificate recognized by the State Board of Technical Education or the AICTE is preferred.
  • The candidate must submit duly filled application forms, application fees and photocopies of mark sheets and identity proofs at the admission counter of NIFT.

Fee Structure
  • Tuition fees – INR 50,000 & INR 3,80,000 for one semester for resident and international students respectively
  • Security Deposit (Refundable) – INR 5,000
  • Library fees – INR 3000 & INR 20,000 for one year for resident and international applicants respectively
  • Alumni Association Membership fees – INR 2,500 for 1 year
