The National Law School of India University, Bangalore was set up on August 29, 1987 by the Karnataka Government under the National Law School of India Act. The law school was established in the interest of enhanced legal education and high standards of research and training in law. The National Law School of India University is located at a distance of 20 kilometers from the Bangalore Airport and only10 kilometers from the majestic bus station and City railway station, making commuting easier.
Academic Programs at National Law School of India University
National Law School of India University, Bangalore offers B.A., LL.B. (Hons) program, which is arranged in trimester. It is an interdisciplinary course aimed at developing the capability of the students to be an expert in the legal profession. Some of the subjects taught in the B.A., LL.B. (Hons) program include Sociology, Political Science, Constitutional Law, Family Law, Contracts, Property Law, Jurisprudence and Code of Civil Procedure.
Other subjects include Law of Evidence, Corporate Law, Criminal Law, Drafting, Pleading and Conveyancing, Taxation Law, Conflict of Law, Litigation Advocacy- Clinical Course, Intellectual Property Law, Labour Law and International Law.
Admissions to National Law School of India University
Candidates seeking admission to the B.A., LL.B. (Hons) Degree Program have to appear for an Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). All admissions to National Law School of India University take place before 30th June of every year.
Eligibility for Admission to Undergraduate Courses:
Candidate have to pass the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) or its equivalent examination securing an aggregate marks not less than 50% in all the core subjects along with English language
Candidates should not complete 20 years of age as on 1st July of the year of admission. In the case of to SC/ST candidates, the maximum age limit is 22 years as on 1st July of the year of admission.
Application for Admission Test
An All India Admission Test is conducted every year on the first Sunday of May for admission to the 1ST year B.A., LL.B. (Hons.). The Test is generally for of 2 hours’ duration comprising objective type short answer questions of a 10+2 standard.
The application forms for the All India Entrance Test of the NLS can be obtained by sending a demand drat of Rs 2000/ drawn on the State Bank of India or any other nationalized Bank payable to the NLSIU at Bangalore to the Registrar, National Law School of India University, Nagarbhavi, Bangalore – 560 072. The filled in application has to be returned on or before the last date as notified.
