  • The Government’s 7th Five Year Plan in the year 1985 sanctioned the establishment of the NRCY

The NRCY or the National Research Center on Yak at Dirang in Arunachal Pradesh is a research center of one of its kind. It studies the conservation, breeding and improvement of the Yak species in India. It was during the 7th Five Year Plan in the year 1985 that a center for Yak breeding was thought by the Indian Government.

It finally came into existence in the year 1989 under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. The Yak rearing farm is situated in Nyukmandung, which is about 31 km from the headquarters in Dirang. The various units in the center includes a central laboratory and several subsidiary and specific laboratories, a library with more than 2000 books and 15 journal subscriptions, technical cell and a Yak product technology unit.
