About Stella Maris College
Stella Maris College started functioning on the day when the country got Independence from the British rule, i.e. on 15th August 1947. It is located at the Cathedral road, Chennai in the Southern most state of Tamil Nadu. Stella Maris College is a Christian (Catholic) Minority College and is meant only for women. The College is directed by the Society of Franciscan Missionaries of Mary.
Although the Stella Maris College was set up primarily to provide Higher Education to the women of the Catholic Community, students from all other communities are also admitted. As the Stella Maris College became autonomous in 1987 it can frame its own courses. But this women’s college in Chennai continues to be affiliated to the University of Madras.
Courses at Stella Maris College, Chennai:
At present the Stella Maris College offers all together 13 under graduate, 10 postgraduate programmes, research programmes leading to M.Phil and Ph.D degrees and some job-oriented postgraduate diploma programmes.
It also offers vocational courses in Tourism, Food Science and quality control, Functional Hindi, Functional English and office Management and Secratarial Practice. One can also pursue Self-Financing courses in B.C.A., B.Com, B.Sc. in Mathematics, B.S.W. Social Work, M.Sc. in Information Technology, M.Sc. in Chemistry, M.Sc. Bio Informatics, M.Com and M.A in International Studies from the Stella Maris College.
Admission to the Undergraduate Courses at Stella Maris College:
For admission to the under graduate courses at Stella Maris candidates need to pass the AISSC, DSSC board. However candidates who have passed the qualifying examination under the CBSE, ISC and CISE New Delhi are also eligible to apply for the under graduate courses at Stella Maris College. Private students and students from other boards need to acquire the eligibility certificate of Madras University. For admission to the B.C.A. programme it is compulsory for the candidates to have Mathematics as one of the subjects at the 10+2 level.
Admission to the Postgraduate Courses at Stella Maris College:
Those who have passed the bachelor’s degree courses from a recognized University are eligible to apply for the postgraduate courses of Stella Maris College.
Stella Maris College Admission Procedure:
Students are admitted to the graduate and postgraduate courses of St. Maris College on the basis of a written test and interview. But only provisionally selected candidates are called for the written test and interview.
Therefore the candidates need to apply to the college in the prescribed form that are made available in the Indian overseas Bank of the Stella Maris College Extension Counter.
The application forms can be obtained from the Bank on the payment of the requisite amount of the application fee, that is very nominal.
In recognition of its good performance the Stella Maris College was awarded 5 stars by the National Assessment and Accredition Council (NAAC).
