The University Institute of Legal Studies is a relatively new edition to one of the oldest Universities of India, Panjab University. Panjab University originally came into existence in Lahore in 1882. But the first session of the University Institute of Legal Studies was inaugurated only on 6th July 2004.
This faculty of Law of the Panjab University has a library with Internet facility. It stores more than 3900 books and the library subscribes to more than 41 journals. UILS also encourages its students to participate in other co-curricular and extra curricular activities. Participation in the moot courts and seminars is compulsory for the senior students as their performance is counted in the internal assessment.

Courses at UILS
The University institute of Legal Studies of Panjab University Chandigarh offers a five year integrated course leading to B.A. LLB (H) degree. The total number of seats available for the course is 110. Out of these 10 seats are reserved for Non Resident Indians.
Admission to the B.A.LLB (H) Course at UILS
Admission to the 5 year BA LLB (H) course at University Institute of Legal Studies is done on the basis of the performance of the candidates in the XII standard and on a common entrance test conducted by the Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Marks of both the exam would carry equal weight age. The entrance exam is held generally in the middle of May.
Eligibility for Courses at UILS
For admission to the Law degree of the UILS candidates need to pass the 10+2 examination of the Panjab or Haryana School Board of Education/ CBSE/ICSE or its equivalent with at least 50% marks in aggregate (45% for SC/ST candidates). Candidates should also not be more than 20 years of age as on 1st August of the year in which admission is sought.
Course Fee at UILS
For Indian students the course fee is Rs. 69,650/- and for NRI category it is US$ 2000 (Registration fee and other casual charges extra). However the course fee is subject to change every year.
