There are both public as well as private universities in France. A unique feature of the French public universities is the fact that they are named after the biggest city near which the main campus is located. Therefore all the thirteen universities located near Paris have been named Paris I to XIII. Another prominent aspect of the universities in France is that they follow the ECTS credit system of marking during examinations, although the semester system of examination still exists in many popular universities of the country.
France is home to not only world renowned resident universities, but also has branches of foreign universities like the American University of Paris, the University of London Institute in Paris, the Baruch College and the Parsons Paris School of Art and Design.
