Higher Education in Gujarat
Gujarat, a state in the western part of India is home to a number of institutions of higher studies including private players. It has always been the endeavor of the state government to make higher education at colleges in Gujarat more affordable and accessible to the economically weaker sections as well as to the rural students. Gujarat has some of the best higher education institutions in India including the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad, and Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information & Communication Technology. According to the 2001 census, Gujarat’s literacy rate was 69.97% with male literacy rate being 80.50% and female being 58.60%. Among the various cities in Gujarat, Ahmedabad has the highest literacy rate.
