Education System in Jharkhand
Jharkhand is one of the states in eastern part of India and shares border with Bihar to the north, Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh to the west, West Bengal to the east and Orissa to the south. On 15th November 2000, this state was formed out of the southern part of the state of Bihar state. The government of Jharkhand has given much emphasis on the higher education of students in the state. As per the 2001 census, the literacy rate in Jharkhand was recorded as 69.13% with female literacy rate being 60.38%. There are quite a few reputed universities in Jharkhand that caters to students aspiring to do their higher studies.

The universities in Jharkhand offer degree programs in a wide range of disciplines. Students can apply for undergraduate, post graduate as well as PhD courses in science, medicine, engineering, commerce, and also various subjects in the arts stream. There are also deemed universities in the state that offer specialized degree programs at the post graduate level. Students can opt for degrees in Agriculture and Mining in addition to the conventional courses.

There are quite a number of technology institutes in Jharkhand that have received the status of deemed university from the state. These include The Birla Institute of Technology and National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur. The other specialized universities in Jharkhand are Birsa Agricultural University and Indian School of Mines.
Most these universities conduct extensive research work along with regular class room coaching. Some of the general universities in the state include Ranchi University, Sido-Kanhu Murmu University and Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribagh.
