The government of Latvia promotes education among the young in the country by providing free education for all school students. Latvia is also home to good colleges and universities of international significance.

Requirements for International Students to Study in Latvia

  • Passport valid for at least six months after end of course
  • Students visa
  • Health insurance certificate
  • Residence permit (EU students do not need residence permit till 3 months of stay in Latvia)
  • Certificates and proof of any achievement in previous academic career
  • TOEFL or IELTS certificate that is proof of English

The State Education Development Agency of Latvia offers scholarships to international students pursuing post graduation and doctoral studies in Latvia.

Educational Expenses

On an average an international student has to spend Euro 400 to 500 per month for registration and tuition fee?.

Students Visa

An international student has to submit the following document to get a students visa in Latvia:

  • Passport that is valid for three months after end of course. The passport must also have two blank pages.
  • Filled and duly signed visa application form
  • Passport size photo
  • Letter of recommendation from institute that the student has enrolled in. This letter also has to be signed by authorities from the Migration Affair of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Latvia.
  • Health certificate

  • Proof of funds for stay in Latvia
