Pharmacy Education – What It Is

Pharmacy or Pharmaceuticals is one of the major fields in Biomedical Science. This field related to health science involves the job of arranging, mixing, distributing or compositing medicines, ointments, drugs, tablets, powders, injections and pills, according to the prescription of a medical practitioner, veterinarian or dentist. In short, the job of pharmacists includes production of pharmaceutical products, monitoring the process of production, ensuring quality control and developing the method of production.

There are more than 225 programs in pharmaceutical science, conducted by different institutions in Mumbai. The various courses are – Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm), which is a 2 year course, Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm), which is a 4-year course, Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm), which is a 2-year course, and so on. For admission to Master’s level, an applicant needs to complete specialization in Bachelor’s level in any of these fields like – Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Pharmaceutics, and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Biochemistry.

Admission Procedure

The admission to the pharmacy colleges in Mumbai is done through a written entrance examination, known as CET or Centralized Entrance Test. The minimum eligibility for doing an under graduation degree or diploma course is completing higher secondary or +2 level with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Math as compulsory subjects. Admission is granted on the basis of academic results and qualifying rank in the entrance examination.
