Education System in Mizoram

Mizoram is a state located in the north-eastern region of India, with Aizawl as its capital city. It is a small state lying in between Bangladesh on the west and Myanmar on the east. Mizoram has a good literacy percentage of 82.27, which is the second highest among the States and Union Territories in India. The education system in Mizoram is managed by an Education Directorate and council of ministers headed by the Education Minister. For higher education as well as research oriented programs, students in the north eastern region can apply for admissions to the central university in Mizoram.

Presently Mizoram University offers a number of degree courses through its twenty seven under-graduate affiliated colleges and two professional institutions. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral research programs in various subjects under the Science, Humanities and Commerce streams. Students can apply for courses in Botany, Commerce, Economics, Education, Forestry, Physics, Geology, Political Science, Zoology, Biotechnology, Management, Information Technology and several other subjects. Mizoram University also offers specialization courses in English and Mizo.

About Mizoram University

Mizoram University is the central university in the state, which offers several courses through its various departments. By the Mizoram University Act, 2000, this University was set up on 2nd July 2001.

The main aim of this university in Mizoram is to take proper measures for introducing innovations in teaching, research and training man-power in order to develop state. There are several colleges affiliated to this university in Mizoram. In addition to the colleges, there are also professional institutes under Mizoram University that offer career oriented courses.
