The Dhamma Dipa School in Tripura is an English medium residential school which presently houses a handful of 250 students from the kindergarten standard to class VI. The founder of the school, Dr Dhammapiya has announced the expansion of the school each year by adding a consecutive class each year until the institution reaches the level of a degree college.
The school which was initially built to cater to the needs of the tribal children in Tripura is today home to non-residents of the state too. The education scenario in north east India is not very developed; so the Dhamma Dipa School also has to rely on government funds for the proper functioning of its courses and administration. With thirty students enrolled every year, Dr Dhammapiya is trying hard to eradicate illiteracy among the tribal population of Tripura.
