With 1085 schools, the Kendriya Vidyalayas are considered to be a good choice when it comes to choosing a good school. The Kendriya Vidayalaya Sangathan also has its branches abroad in Moscow and Kathmandu, Kuwait and Tehran. The schools are affiliated to the CBSE board and follow English or Hindi as their medium of instruction. The schools admit both boys and girls and ensure teaching Sanskrit as a compulsory subject from class VI to class VIII. Two schools (KV IIT Powai (Mumbai), KV RK Puram (New Delhi)) under the Kendriya Vidayalaya banner have been accredited by the QCI or Quality Council of India. In addition, schools like KV Aliganj (Lucknow), KV Ganeshkhind (Pune), and KV Ballygunge (Kolkata) are in the process of being accredited by the same. The schools grant admission to the students on the basis of an entrance examination. However, students willing to seek admission in class one are restricted for appearing entrance examination.
