Sainik School Satara was inaugurated on June 23rd 1961. The main aim of setting up the school was to prepare and groom students so that they could be eligible for admission into NDA or National Defense Academy as well as other defence academies in the country.
This was mainly for the students who belonged to financially weaker segment of the society.
The school enrolls only boys. An admission test is held for students seeking admission into classes VI and IX. In the former case (VI), the age of the student should not exceed 10 to 11 years. In case of the latter (IX), the age should not exceed 13 years to 14 years.
Facilities include Cadets’ Mess, Cadets’ Residence, Auditorium, sports facilities, gymnasium, canteen, and riding school.
