Education System in UK
Primary education in UK consists of stages 1 and 2. It continues till a student attains 11 years of age. Then he/she goes to secondary school, which consists of stages 3 and 4. At the age of 14, students appear for GCSE- General Certificate of Secondary Education (SCE for Scotland) examination. After successful completion, students opt for higher education.
In the UK, “O” Level examination corresponds to Indian SSC (School Final Examination), and “A” Level examination corresponds to Indian Higher Secondary. One can complete bachelor’s degree in 3 years and master’s degree in 1 year. Students also get an option of Sandwich Program, where a combined master’s and PhD (1-year for Masters and 3-year for PhD) program can be done.
