Introduction

Chennai Mathematical Institute(CMI), was established in 1989 and became an autonomous institute from the year 1996. CMI imparts global standards of education and encourages the students to pursue research. The students of CMI conduct their research activities in leading institutes of the world.

The faculties are the best in their respective fields and they guide the students by providing them with valuable inputs. In 2006, CMI was conferred the status of an university by the Government of India. The institute, situated in the campus of Siruseri believes in transforming it into an university of international stature. The institute is a glaring example of how an institute runs on the basis of funding from both the government and the private sectors. While the research groups in Mathematics and Computer Science at CMI are among the best in the country a research group in Physics is alos being set up.

The institute is carrying out research activities in a range of subjects as mentioned below:

  • Geometry, topology, differential equations, algebra,
  • Design and analysis of algorithms, computer security systems, specification and verification of software systems
  • Quantum theory and mathematical physics.

The courses offered by CMI

B.Sc. in Mathematics and Computer Science

Duration: 3 years

Admission Procedure: Admission is usually through an entrance test conducted across India in the month of May.

Eligibility: A pass in class 12 with mathematics as one of the subjects. Candidates with excellent score in National Science Olympiad need not appear in the test.

Students need not have to pay the tuition fees and receive a monthly allowance of Rs. 500 in the scholarship schemes of CMI.

B. Sc in Physics:

Duration: 3 years

Admission Procedure: Admission is usually through an entrance test conducted across India in the month of May.

Eligibility: A pass in class 12 with mathematics as one of the subjects. Candidates with excellent score in National Science Olympiad need not appear in the test.

Students need not have to pay the tuition fees and receive a monthly allowance of Rs. 1000 in the scholarship schemes of CMI.

M .Sc in Mathematics:

Duration: 4 semesters.

Admission Procedure: Admission is usually through an entrance test conducted across India in the month of May.

Eligibility: Candidates will have to obtain B. Sc, B. Math, B. Tech and B. Stat

Students need not have to pay the tuition fees. They receive a monthly allowance of Rs. 1500/- in the scholarship schemes of CMI.

The Society for Electronic Transactions and Security (SETS), Chennai, provides special scholarships of Rs. 4000/- per month for M.Sc in Mathematics or Computer Science for students with special interest in cryptography.

Scholarship is given on the basis of interviews after enrolling in the Masters degree program of CMI.

M.Sc in Computer Science

Duration: 4 semesters.
