Exams Required for Admission in IIT

Admission in Undergraduate Courses

It is a dream for students from Science background to crack IIT-JEE and enter IITs. After 10+2 examinations, students appear for this entrance examination administered by the IITs. Only the students with 60% aggregate in higher Secondary examinations are allowed to appear for this entrance examination. The SC/ST/PD candidates can appear for IIT-JEE with 55% aggregate in the HS exams.

Every year IIT-JEE entrance examination is organized during April to May. Applicants apply for this entrance examination online around November. The admission procedure is purely based on the merit list.

Admission in Postgraduate Courses

To get admission in a post graduate course, like M.Tech, a student has to qualify in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).

IITs offer various other postgraduate degrees like MBA, M.Sc (Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics) and M.S. (engineering). To get admissions to these courses the students have to qualify exams like JAM (Joint Admission to M.Sc), CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design) and CAT (Common Admission Test).

Fellowship in Doctoral Program

Admission to a doctoral program (PhD) is mainly offered, on the basis of personal interview. However, a candidate may need to appear for a written exam. Scholastic students are offered with research options in IITs.
