Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Bhubaneswar is one of the youngest academies to receive the status of “deemed university” in India, followed by “university status” in the year 2004. The university is recognized for such achievements by the Limca Book of Records.
In the year 2009, the university achieved 16th position in India, 4th in the eastern region, and 5th among private universities in India, as per a survey conducted by the Times of India. In the year 2008, as per the survey conducted by Outlook India, the university achieved 7th in placement of successful engineering pass-outs and 18th among private engineering academies in India. The university has also been nominated by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) as the mentor academy for conducting faculty development program in eastern India.
