The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT),New Delhi started out in the year 1986 under the purview of the Ministry of Textiles with a vision to place India in a formidable position in the global fashion industry.
The NIFT through its other professional centers at Mumbai, Kolkata, Gandhinagar,Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore intends to give the garment industry a wider connotation in terms of blending traditional Indian style with international quality standards. All NIFT students hail their alma mater’s culture where they successfully mix technicality with creative genius. As an acknowledgment to its significant contribution in the multifarious spheres of education, training and research pertaining to the world of fashion NIFT is enlisted among other Deemed to be Universities under the UGC Act,1956.
The NIFT umbrella is being successfully managed by the Institute’s Director General Smt. Gauri Kumar.
Although the New Delhi center is the Head Office of NIFT, the tertiary centers as well as the other centers irrespective of their location are in no way less important. The institution has a wide gamut of subjects to offer and the duration of the same varies from 1 month to 4 years. Currently, the National Institute of Fashion Technology awards diploma and post graduate diplomas to its students. However, on getting the Deemed University status from the University Grants Commission, NIFT would be authorized to award degrees to its students.
