Koneru Lakshmaiah College of Engineering affiliated to Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur was established by Late Sri Koneru Lakshmaiah & Sri K.Satyanarayana in the year 1980.Late Sri Koneru Lakshmaiah, the founder of a number of industries in Vijayawada, observed the lack of talented engineers in the region and decided to set up an Engineering College in the rural setting, for benefiting the local population. The college is recognized by All India Council for Technical Education(AICTE), New Delhi.
Courses Offered at Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College: MBBS
At present the Koneru Lakshmaiah College of Engineering is running 10 under graduate programs and 6 post graduate programs. It boasts of being the first engineering college to have started the Industrial & Production Engineering branch in undergraduate courses. The graduation programs at Koneru Lakshmaiah College of Engineering include:
A total number of 150 students are annually admitted to the MBBS course of the Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College. 15% of the seats are reserved for NRI Students.The Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to the course is held for all, except NRI students. NRI students are admitted on the basis of their merit.
Admission Procedure at Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College :
- Must have passed PUC or equivalent under 10+2 scheme (PCB aggregate percentage should be 50% for general merit and English subject 50% and for Schedule Caste / Schedule Tribe (SC/ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) minimum 40% respectively)
- Must have completed 17 years by the month of December of the year of admission.
- Last date of admission, 30th September of the respective year.
Every student will have to go through a period of certified study covering over 4 1/2 academic years from the date of the beginning of his study for the subject comprising the medical curriculum to the date of completion of the examination accompanied by one-year compulsory rotational internship.
The post graduate degree is offered for a 3 year course (MD/MS) on 15 subjects. There is an allotment of 36 seats.
The post graduate diploma is a 2 year course in 7 different subjects. The number of seats allotted for this course is 18.
Candidate shall be admitted for any postgraduate degree / diploma course unless he/she has obtained and produced the eligibility certificate issued by the RGUHS university.
The training of postgraduate students for degree/diploma shall be with additional responsibilities in the management and treatment of patients. Involvement of the students in all aspects of the educational process shall be asserted upon training in clinical, basic medical sciences and laboratory and experimental work. The candidate should participate in seminars, group discussions, grand rounds, case demonstration, clinics, journal review and clinical meetings.
The college has been actively involved in research activities since its commencement.
There are five hostels spread across the lap of a lush green stretch of land. Separate hostels are provided to NRI Boy / Girl students and the rooms are very well furnished. Solar heated water facility, water cooler, common telephone, common TV room, common reading room etc. are present for the comfort of the inmates. Mess membership in the campus is compulsory. Some hostels also provide gymnasium and indoor games facilities.
The R.L.Jalappa Hospital & Research Center is located in the college campus run by Sri Devaraj Urs Educational Trust and is equipped with state-of -the-art instruments.
The library remains open from 9.00 am to 9.00 p.m on weekdays and 9.00 a.m to 1.00 p.m on Sundays, but is closed on national holidays. The library has a large collection of books and journals including more than 100 foreign journals. Book bank service and Internet connection is available in the library.
The Institute has been constantly striving to be the best among the medical institutions in the country with continual improvement in systems and processes. The success of the students has definitely added to the ongoing achievement process of the institution. In the previous years many of the students have been awarded with gold medals in MBBS and other examinations of the University.
