The Loyola College, established in the year 1925, is one of the frontrunners among higher education institutes in India. Though the college is affiliated to the University of Madras, it enjoys the status of an autonomous institution in the sense that the college authorities have the independence in choosing their own syllabuses for the various courses of study offered. The college had initially been established with the objective to provide education among the Christian community of the state. Presently, the student body of Loyola College comprises people from all over the country irrespective of caste, creed or religion. The Loyola College became more popular after being conferred the 5 star status by NAAC.
