Deemed Universities in India

Deemed Universities have strengthened the higher education system in India significantly over the last few years. Basically, ‘Deemed University’ is a status of autonomy granted by the Department of Higher Education, Union Human Resource Development Ministry of India to certain institutions and departments of different universities that are performing really well in specific areas of study.

Selection of Deemed Universities is depended on the advice of University Grants Commission (UGC) of India, under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. After getting the ‘deemed’ status, these institutions and their research centers can enjoy complete autonomy in drafting their syllabus, course work and all other project ideas.
